Joss Whedon to Direct and Write "S.H.I.E.L.D." TV Series

We recently reported that Marvel and Disney had recently signed Joss Whedon to a 3 year deal that included writing and directing "Avengers 2", but also to developed a Marvel TV Series for ABC. Now, we have news that the Live-Action TV Series will be about "S.H.I.E.L.D.".


The new show will be written by Whedon, who will also direct the pilot episode. Production is set to start immediately. This marks a return to television for Whedon, who created such cult favorites as "Buffy The Vampire Slayer," "Firefly," and "Dollhouse."

"SHIELD" is ran by Nick Fury, who recruited Iron Man, Captain America, the Hulk, and Thor to join his agents to fight Loki in "The Avengers." No word if Nick Fury will be one of the characters in the TV series or whether Samuel L. Jackson will be involved.

While there’s currently no word if actors and characters from the Marvel cinematic universe will feature in this series, production on the pilot, which marks the first live-action Marvel TV project to get a green light, will start immediately. This ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ projects marks a return to series television for Joss Whedon, creator and showrunner of the cult favorites ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer,’ ‘Firefly’ and ‘Dollhouse.’ In addition to ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.,’ Marvel TV has a couple of other projects in development at ABC Studios, including a proposed ‘Hulk’ series from Guillermo del Toro and ‘Battlestar Galactica’ producer David Eick. ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ will reportedly be written by Whedon and frequent collaborators, brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. If his schedule is permitting, Joss Whedon is also set to direct the pilot.
