Fan Film Corner: "Batman: Puppet Master"

The Great Fan Film "Batman: Puppet Master", directed by Bryan Nest is our latest selection in Fan Film Corner.

LOWDOWN:
Someone's been letting inmates out of Arkham Asylum...

In the months following the death of Harvey Dent, Batman, still a wanted fugitive, is pushed to his limits as a new crime wave hits Gotham. Batman's search to find who's responsible leads him to a showdown with the masochistic serial killer Victor Zsasz.

Meanwhile Gotham's newest crime boss, a mysterious figure known as Scarface, has a meeting with Edward Nigma, an FBI agent, sworn to bring down Batman at all costs.

REVIEW:
Just to start off, I want to point out this is nowhere near your average fan film. This truly felt like a Hollywood movie, it was truly amazing, perfect casting in Edward Nigma/'The Riddler' and Arnold Wesker. Interesting choice in the actor for Victor Zsasz, he didn't look like what you'd expect Zsasz to look like, but makeup for his scars was perfect. The only complaint I have in casting is the choice in the actor for Batman - he got the voice right, but his acting, mainly his expressions felt a bit off. I didn't find the smaller character's performance convincing, it was the main thing that kept me from forgetting this was a fan film.

The film's score, written by Jerel Northern, was absolutely perfect. He managed to keep the standard feel of Hans Zimmer's theme from the movies, while adding his own take to the Batman theme.

Set in the months following Harvey Dent's murder (The Dark Knight), Batman is still a wanted fugitive. As a new crime wave hits Gotham, Batman is pushed to his limits. His search for who's responsible leads to Victor Zsasz, a twisted and insane serial killer. Afer his showdown with Zsasz, he's lead to a meeting between FBI agent Edward Nigma and 'Scarface'(talking through a telephone), a rising mobster in Gotham. Agent Nigma has been assigned to taking in the Batman. He's also convinced that Dent was the man who killed the police officers months ago, and not the Batman (Events that happened at the conclusion of 'The Dark Knight'). Scarface and Agent Nigma make a deal; Nigma provides protection for Scarface, and Scarface takes out all the crime lords in Gotham. His plan is to draw Batman out, keep him on alert, never letting him rest, and eventually, take in the Batman.

Bryan Nest's directing is fantastic, absolutely flawless. Two people who will soon become household names are Wil Daniels (Edward Nigma), and Bryan Nest (Director). Both have so much talent, and are soon to become major names in each of their fields.

OVERALL:
With strong acting performances and a Dark Knight who does a spot-on Bale-as-Batman, it’s a dark story told with teeth. Plus, the reveal of the new crime boss is a great twist aimed right at fans of the comic book. Director Bryan Nest and his team deserve a good, hard look from major studios.

I have to say that in Batman: Puppet Master, the villains really steal the show.

This is a film created by fans for fans and it delivers an exciting storyline that will introduce fans to new versions of Mr. Zsasz, The Ventriloquist, and Edward Nigma (aka The Riddler), who fans were expecting to appear in Nolan’s third Batman film.
