"On The Go" Movie Reviews: The Amazing Spiderman

For Today's Selection for "On The Go" Movie Reviews: we review "The Amazing Spiderman", the infamous reboot to the Spiderman Film Franchise and to be honest with you..."its not so Amazing" as you think.

LOWDOWN:
The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Martin Sheen) and Aunt May (Sally Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents' disappearance - leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans), his father's former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors' alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

REVIEW:
Lets start with the bad news first, "The Amazing Spider-Man" contains a majority of the elements found in the Sam Raimi films. Peter Parker is a loser school kid in NY, Peter has the hots for his classmate, Peter gets bitten, Peter becomes Spidey, Peter overcomes the school bully, Peter loses his uncle, and Peter fights crime. There is precious little that the reboot brings to the table, some of which includes a glimpse of his parents. The good news is that "The Amazing Spider-Man" slightly works despite the constant sense of deja vu with the famous "i've seen it before".

Felt like too many plot holes were present and the story just went sideways towards the end. A little slow in the beginning and just when you know its gonna pick up....Bang!!...the rush goes away and it just gets boring at most parts of the movie to a point where i'm just checking my facebook on my phone.

There is no upside down kiss under the rain, but there is an unexpected moment under a starlit balcony and a finale that puts a big twist on the bittersweet climax of the 2002 movie. Despite some clunky dialogue, the melodrama and romance here barely works.

Peter Parker played by Andrew Garfield is faced with more heartbreak and trauma than in all three previous films put together, yet Spidey is more of the sarcastic wisecracking punk here and it makes for a nice change. Emma Stone is jaw-droppingly gorgeous to look at, and her Gwen is rather courageous instead of ditsy. Martin Sheen and Sally Field do an outstanding job as Uncle Ben and Aunt May. Rhys Ifans does an okay job as Dr. Curt Connors aka The Lizard but it felt more like watching another version of William Dafoe's portrayal as "The Green Goblin" at certain parts.

To me honestly the best part of the movies were 3 things: Great Special Effects, Awesome Action and Emma Stone... that's it.

OVERALL:
The sad attempt at dialogue and flow in this movie makes it look like it was rushed through its production phase with little thought as to how it would affect the entire film. Seriously, this is some of the worst screen writing I've ever seen. It is especially painful if you've seen the older spiderman films.

I came out of the theater feeling a bit empty. It might be because I was spoiled by Sam Raimi's Spiderman or because this film just looked cool and actually had no original substance. The story is like any great superhero film but it all seems too cliche at some point and makes you expect the next scene.

Its a decent movie but a reboot was not needed for the original spiderman. Its almost a remake scene for scene of the original. Its a rental. The only thing different this movie has to offer is a different villain and love interest for peter parker.
