After roughly a month of negotiations, Ryan Reynolds has officially been cast in the lead role for HIGHLANDER.
Reynolds will play Conner MacLeod, a Highlander who discovers he is one of a dwindling group of immortals who wander the earth and kill each other in combat for the final “Prize”...mortality.
The remake is set to be helmed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (director of 28 weeks later), who is also in negotiations to rewrite the script. Neal Moritz and Peter Davis will produce the film.
Reynolds started his film career in comedy, most notably playing the titular college slacker in “National Lampoon’s Van Wilder” and a sarcastic waiter in the cult hit “Waiting”. His career accelerated after a small but memorable turn as Deadpool in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.” He has since starred as the superhero Hal Jordan in “Green Lantern” and played opposite Denzel Washington in CIA thriller “Safe House.” He is currently voicing lead characters in two DreamWorks Animation films to be released next year – “The Croods” and “Turbo”.
The role was originally played by Christopher Lambert and also costarred Sean Connery and Clancy Brown
