The Lowdown: Five friends go to a remote cabin in the woods. Where they get more then they bargained for. Together, they must discover the truth behind the cabin in the woods.
The Review: Clearly this is one of the best Horror Movies i've seen in quite sometime. From the Minds of Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard, Cabin in the Woods is one hell of a rollercoaster ride that carries tons of laughs and jaw dropping moments with a "surprise twist" at every turn and just before you think the ride is over....BAM!!! it hits you with a Mind-F*ck Twist at the end. The movie also plays homage to such great horror flicks such as Scream, and Evil Dead (which happens to be one of my favorites of all time) with a scene of them exploring a basement with a book or old journal that carries some ghastly entries.
All of the characters involve are the particular every stereotype role in horror flick such as The Jock (Chris Hemsworth), The Stoner (Fran Kranz), The Brain (Jesse Williams), and of course The Slut (Anna Hutchison) and The Virgin (Kristen Connolly). You'll get to know all of these unlucky friends and you might just care about this small group and what happens to them when facing the darkness that lingers in the basement and outside in the woods. Each character displays loyalty, courage, and brains that will have every audience rooting for them to survive.
Overall: Joss Whedon took the standard horror slasher film and modified it into something new and pretty original. The acting is the film is fair and sub-par but is better than one would expect. But the twists and Mind-F*ck moments in the storyline are the MAIN Draw for the film. Just when you think youv'e got an idea on what and where its going, it pulls a complete left face and catches you off guard with new elements making your ride on the rollercoaster to the eventual destination more exciting and hilarious then your normal horror movie.
