Honorable Mention - "The Loved Ones"

"The Loved Ones", is a gory mashup of Sixteen Candles and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. And it deserves our First Honorable Mention.

The Lowdown: Lola Stone asked Brent Mitchell to the prom, but Brent said 'no,' and now he's screwed. What happens when Lola doesn't get what she wants? She enlists Daddy's help to throw a prom of her own where she is queen and Brent is king, whether he likes it or not. "The Loved Ones" is what happens when puppy love goes horribly, violently wrong. Brent should have said 'yes.'

The Review:  It's gory, morbid and capitalizes on a few true events as well as containing elements from a few other horror movies which I'm sure inspired these aspects. You can see a few scenarios coming well in advance and point out alot of connections but they were still creative and worth showing: Last House on the Left, The People Under the Stairs, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Wolf Creek just to name a few. Lots of suspense and complete satisfaction by the time it's over.

Overall: This movie is a vivid, sexy, fun rollercoaster that takes the conventions of horror and runs them off the rails. The Loved Ones definitely has a high re-watch value and is the perfect choice for a couples Friday night movie.
