Hatfields & McCoys a History Channel Original Series

Beginning on Memorial Day, the History Channel will debut the original series Hatfields & McCoys, a three-parter starring Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton.

The 3 part mini-series will be about the Legendary Feud between the Hatfields and the McCoys which took place from 1882-1888 in the West VirginiaKentucky back country along the Tug Fork, off the Big Sandy River. The Hatfields of West Virginia were led by William Anderson "Devil Anse" Hatfield (Kevin Costner) while the McCoys of Kentucky were under the leadership of Randolph "Ole Ran'l" McCoy (Bill Paxton). The feud has entered the American folklore lexicon as a metaphor for any bitterly feuding rival parties. More than a century later, the story of the feud has become a modern metaphor for the perils of family honor, justice and vengeance. Tom Berenger, Powers Boothe, and Jena Malone also star respectfully.

On June 14, 2003, the McCoy cousins partnered with Reo Hatfield of Waynesboro, Virginia to author an official truce between the families. The idea was symbolic: to show that Americans could bury their differences and unite in times of crisis, most notably following the September 11 attacks.

The miniseries will begin airing on Memorial Day, May 28, 2012, on the History Channel.
